1. I CALL TO witness the dawn |
2. And the Ten Nights, |
3. The multiple and the one, |
4. The night as it advances, |
5. Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? |
6. Have you not seen what your Lord did to the ´Ad |
7. Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), |
8. The like of whom were never created in the realm; |
9. And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; |
10. And the mighty Pharaoh |
11. Who terrorised the region, |
12. And multiplied corruption. |
13. So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. |
14. Your Lord is certainly in wait. |
15. As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." |
16. But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." |
17. No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, |
18. Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, |
19. And you devour (others´) inheritance greedily, |
20. And love wealth with all your heart. |
21. Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, |
22. And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, |
23. And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? |
24. He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." |
25. None can punish as He will punish on that day, |
26. And none can bind as He will bind. |
27. O you tranquil soul, |
28. Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. |
29. "Enter then among My votaries, |
30. Enter then My garden." |
 |
