1. Say: My Lord would not care for you, were it not for your prayer. Now indeed you have rejected, so the punishment will come. |
2. Benignant, Hearing, Knowing God. |
3. These are the verses of the Book that makes manifest. |
4. Perhaps thou wilt kill thyself with grief because they believe not. |
5. If We please, We could send down on them a sign from heaven, so that their necks would bend before it. |
6. And there comes not to them a new Reminder from the Beneficent but they turn away from it. |
7. They indeed reject, so the news will soon come to them of that at which they mock. |
8. See they not the earth, how many of every noble kind We cause to grow in it? |
9. Surely in this is a sign; yet most of them believe not. |
10. And surely thy Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. |
11. And when thy Lord called Moses, saying: Go to the iniquitous people -- |
12. The people of Pharaoh. Will they not guard against evil? |
13. He said: My Lord, I fear that they will reject me. |
14. And my breast straitens, and my tongue is not eloquent, so send for Aaron (too). |
15. And they have a crime against me, so I fear that they will kill me. |
16. He said: By no means; so go you both with Our signs; surely We are with you, Hearing. |
17. Then come to Pharaoh, and say: We are bearers of a message of the Lord of the worlds: |
18. Send with us the Children of Israel. |
19. (Pharaoh) said: Did we not bring thee up as a child among us, and thou didst tarry (many) years of thy life among us? |
20. And thou didst (that) deed of thine which thou didst and thou art of the ungrateful ones. |
21. He said: I did it then when I was of those who err. |
22. So I fled from you when I feared you, then my Lord granted me judgment and made me of the messengers. |
23. And is it a favour of which thou remindest me that thou hast enslaved the Children of Israel? |
24. Pharaoh said: And what is the Lord of the worlds? |
25. He said: The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. |
26. (Pharaoh) said to those around him: Do you not hear? |
27. He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. |
28. (Pharaoh) said: Surely your messenger, who is sent to you, is mad. |
29. He said: The Lord of the East and the West and what is between them, if you have any sense. |
30. (Pharaoh) said: If thou takest a god besides me, I will certainly put thee is prison. |
31. He said: Even if I show thee something plain? |
32. (Pharaoh) said: Show it, then, if thou art of the truthful. |
33. So he cast down his rod, and lo! it was an obvious serpent; |
34. And he drew forth his hand, and lo! it appeared white to the beholders. |
35. (Pharaoh) said to the chiefs around him: Surely this is a skilful enchanter, |
36. Who desires to turn you out of your land with his enchantment. What is it then that you counsel? |
37. They said: Give him and his brother respite and send heralds into the cities |
38. That they bring to thee every skilful enchanter. |
39. So the enchanters were gathered together for the appointment of a well-known day, |
40. And it was said to the people: Will you gather together? |
41. Haply may we follow the enchanters, if they are the vanquishers. |
42. So when the enchanters came, they said to Pharaoh: Will there be a reward for us, if we are the vanquishers? |
43. He said: Yes, and surely you will then be of those who are nearest (to me). |
44. Moses said to them: Cast what you are going to cast. |
45. So they cast down their cords and their rods and said: By Pharaoh’s power we shall most surely be victorious. |
46. Then Moses cast down his rod, and lo! it swallowed up their fabrication. |
47. And the enchanters were thrown down prostrate -- |
48. They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, |
49. The Lord of Moses and Aaron. |
50. (Pharaoh) said: You believe in him before I give you leave; surely he is the chief of you who taught you enchantment, so you shall know. Certainly I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposites sides, and I will crucify you all. |
51. They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we return. |
52. We hope that our Lord will forgive us our wrongs because we are the first of the believers. |
53. Sarwar We hope that our Lord will forgive us for our sins; we were not believers at first." |
54. And We revealed to Moses, saying: Travel by night with My servants -- you will be pursued. |
55. And Pharaoh sent heralds into the cities (proclaiming): |
56. These are indeed a small band, |
57. And they have surely enraged us: |
58. And we are truly a vigilant multitude. |
59. So We turned them out of gardens and springs, |
60. And treasures and goodly dwellings -- |
61. Even so. And We gave them as a heritage to the Children of Israel. |
62. Then they pursued them at sunrise. |
63. So when the two hosts saw each other, the companions of Moses cried out: Surely we are overtaken. |
64. He said: By no means; surely my Lord is with me -- He will guide me. |
65. Then We revealed to Moses: March on to the sea with thy staff. So it parted, and each party was like a huge mound. |
66. And there We brought near the others. |
67. And We saved Moses and those with him, all. |
68. Then We drowned the others. |
69. Surely there is a sign in this; yet most of them believe not. |
70. And surely thy Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. |
71. And recite to them the story of Abraham. |
72. When he said to his sire and his people: What do you worship? |
73. They said: We worship idols, so we shall remain devoted to them. |
74. He said: Do they hear you when you call (on them), |
75. Or do they benefit or harm you? |
76. They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. |
77. He said: Do you then see what you worship -- |
78. You and your ancient sires? |
79. Surely they are an enemy to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds, |
80. Who created me, then He shows me the way, |
81. And Who gives me to eat and to drink, |
82. And when I am sick, He heals me, |
83. And Who will cause me to die, then give me life, |
84. And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of Judgment. |
85. My Lord, grant me wisdom, and join me with the righteous, |
86. And ordain for me a goodly mention in later generations, |
87. And make me of the heirs of the Garden of bliss, |
88. And forgive my sire, surely he is of the erring ones, |
89. And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised -- |
90. The day when wealth will not avail, nor sons, |
91. Save him who comes to Allah with a sound heart. |
92. And the Garden is brought near for the dutiful, |
93. And hell is made manifest to the deviators, |
94. And it is said to them: Where are those that you worshipped |
95. Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? |
96. So they are hurled into it, they and the deviators, |
97. And the hosts of the devil, all. |
98. They will say, while they quarrel therein: |
99. By Allah! We were certainly in manifest error, |
100. When we made you equal with the Lord of the worlds. |
101. And none but the guilty led us astray. |
102. So we have no intercessors, |
103. Nor a true friend. |
104. Now, if we could but once return, we would be believers. |
105. Surely there is a sign in this; yet most of them believe not. |
106. And surely thy Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. |
107. The people of Noah rejected the messengers. |
108. When their brother Noah said to them: Will you not guard against evil? |
109. Surely I am a faithful messenger to you: |
110. So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. |
111. And I ask of you no reward for it: my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds. |
112. So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. |
113. They said: Shall we believe in thee and the meanest follow thee? |
114. He said: And what knowledge have I of what they did? |
115. Their reckoning is only with my Lord, if you but perceive. |
116. And I am not going to drive away the believers; |
117. I am only a plain warner. |
118. They said: If thou desist not, O Noah, thou wilt certainly be stoned to death. |
119. He said: My Lord, my people give me the lie. |
120. So judge Thou between me and them openly, and deliver me and the believers who are with me. |
121. So We delivered him and those with him in the laden ark. |
122. Then We drowned the rest afterwards. |
123. Surely there is sign in this, yet most of them believe not. |
124. And surely thy Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. |
125. ‘Ad gave the lie to the messengers. |
126. When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard against evil? |
127. Surely I am a faithful messenger to you: |
128. So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. |
129. And I ask of you no reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds. |
130. Do you build on every height a monument? You (only) sport. |
131. And you make fortresses that you may abide. |
132. And when you seize, you seize as tyrants. |
133. So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. |
134. And keep your duty to Him Who aids you with that which you know -- |
135. He aids you with cattle and children |
136. And gardens and fountains. |
137. Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day. |
138. They said: It is the same to us whether thou admonish, or art not one of the admonishers: |
139. This is naught but a fabrication of the ancients: |
140. And we will not be chastised. |
141. So they rejected him, then We destroyed them. Surely there is a sign in this; yet most of them believe not. |
142. And surely thy Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. |
143. Thamud gave the lie to the messengers. |
144. When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard against evil? |
145. Surely I am a faithful messenger to you: |
146. So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. |
147. And I ask of you no reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds. |
148. Will you be left secure in what is here, |
149. In gardens and fountains, |
150. And corn-fields and palm-trees having fine flower-spikes? |
151. And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly. |
152. So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. |
153. And obey not the bidding of the extravagant, |
154. Who make mischief in the land and act not aright. |
155. They said: Thou art only a deluded person. |
156. Thou art naught but a mortal like ourselves -- so bring a sign if thou art truthful. |
157. He said: This is a she-camel; she has her portion of water, and you have your portion of water at an appointed time. |
158. And touch her not with evil, lest the chastisement of a grievous day overtake you. |
159. But the hamstrung her, then regretted, |
160. So the chastisement overtook them. Surely there is a sign in this; yet most of them believe not. |
161. And surely thy Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. |
162. The people of Lot gave the lie to the messengers. |
163. When their brother Lot said to them: Will you not guard against evil? |
164. Surely I am a faithful messenger to you: |
165. So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. |
166. And I ask of you no reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds. |
167. Do you come to the males from among the creatures, |
168. And leave your wives whom your Lord has created for you? Nay, you are a people exceeding limits. |
169. They said: If thou desist not, O Lot, thou wilt surely be banished. |
170. He said: Surely I abhor what you do. |
171. My Lord, deliver me and my followers from what they do. |
172. So We delivered him and his followers all, |
173. Except an old woman, among those who remained behind. |
174. Then We destroyed the others. |
175. And We rained on them a rain, and evil was the rain on those warned. |
176. Surely there is a sign in this; yet most of them believe not. |
177. And surely thy Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. |
178. The dwellers of the thicket gave the lie to the messengers. |
179. When Shu’aib said to them: Will you not guard against evil? |
180. Surely I am a faithful messenger to you; |
181. So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. |
182. And I ask of you no reward for it; my reward only with the Lord of the worlds. |
183. Give full measure and be not of those who diminish. |
184. And weigh with a true balance. |
185. And wrong not men of their dues, and act not corruptly in the earth, making mischief. |
186. And keep your duty to Him Who created you and the former generation. |
187. They said: Thou art only a deluded person, |
188. And thou art naught but a mortal like ourselves, and we deem thee to be a liar. |
189. So cause a portion of the heaven to fall on us, if thou art truthful. |
190. He said: My Lord knows best what you do. |
191. But they rejected him, so the chastisement of the day of Covering overtook them. Surely it was the chastisement of a grievous day! |
192. Surely there is a sign in this; yet most of them believe not. |
193. And surely thy Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. |
194. And surely this is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. |
195. The faithful Spirit has brought it |
196. On thy heart that thou mayest be a warner, |
197. In plain Arabic language. |
198. And surely the same is in the Scriptures of the ancients. |
199. Is it not a sign to them that the learned men of the Children of Israel know it? |
200. And if We have revealed it to any of the foreigners, |
201. And he had read it to them, they would not have believed in it. |
202. Thus do We cause it to enter into the hearts of the guilty. |
203. They will not believe in it till they see the painful chastisement: |
204. So it will come to them suddenly, while they perceive not; |
205. Then they will say: Shall we be respited? |
206. Do they still seek to hasten on Our chastisement? |
207. Seest thou, if We let them enjoy themselves for years, |
208. Then that which they are promised comes to them -- |
209. That which they were made to enjoy will not avail them? |
210. And We destroyed no town but it had (its) warners -- |
211. To remind. And We are never unjust. |
212. And the devils have not brought it. |
213. And it behoves them not, nor have they the power to do (it). |
214. Surely they are far removed from hearing it. |
215. So call not upon another god with Allah, lest thou be of those who are chastised. |
216. And warn thy nearest relations, |
217. And lower thy wing to the believers who follow thee. |
218. But if they disobey thee, say: I am clear of what you do. |
219. And rely on the Mighty, the Merciful, |
220. Who sees thee when thou standest up, |
221. And thy movements among those who prostrate themselves. |
222. Surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing. |
223. Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? |
224. They descend upon every lying, sinful one -- |
225. They give ear, and most of them are liars. |
226. And the poets -- the deviators follow them. |
227. Seest thou not that they wander in every valley, |
 |
